Saint Mary's College Investment Group has two aims : 1) to educate group members on investment strategies and options and 2) to improve investor responsibility. The Investor Group assesses the performance of stock valuation in hopes of finding companies currently undervalued in the stock market. By studying the governance of a company, their social impact, and their environmental and economic footprint, members will determine investing in a company would be responsible. If the rest of the group members agree that a company is both undervalued and responsible, then they can elect to invest a portion of the Fund into that companies stock.

Examples of CIR actions during the previous three years:
1) Updating stock valuations on select companies.
2) Teaching students fundamental market concepts.
3) Screening for potential companies/stocks to buy. We use FactSet (web version) to screen through stocks across U.S. markets to find the best companies using several different screening criteria i.e ROIC, P/E NTM, PEG, and Dividend Yield.
Throughout these projects we work to deploy a large portion of our cash position into several different ETFs in order to diversify the portfolio. A large part of our stock picking is weighted on whether or not we believe these companies can develop cash flow over time, and dominate the market, and part of doing that is being a good corporate citizen, taking care of your employees, and looking out for the environment. Additionally, part of our strategy for picking stocks includes picking companies that have "sound management" and a "good track record".
