Student Sustainability Research Incentives

A student researcher receives an award at our Student Research Symposium for their champion efforts in sustainability-related research projects. This is an award dedicated specifically to sustainability research. The winner of this award receives $250. Hundreds of students participate in the broader symposium.

As part of the 2016 update of the Strategic Plan, SDSU identified seven multi-disciplinary areas to focus on program development and recruitment. These areas included viromics, climate change and sustainability, Blue Gold: Mitigating the Effects of Water Scarcity, and Digital Humanities/Global Diversity. This was supported through an increase in base funding for new faculty and almost $7 million in one time funding.

The 2016 update of the Strategic Plan states that "The pursuit of innovative and interdisciplinary exploration is vital to the university’s long-term academic and
economic prosperity." One of the Research Advancement group's responsibilities is to "develop cooperative multidisciplinary, multi-institutional partnership programs."

The library sponsors a student research symposium every year. This year, there was a monetary award for sustainability related projects. The Senate Sustainability Committee decided the winner of the sustainability award.
