The culture assessment was developed by reviewing other campus assessments and by a collaboration between students, faculty, and staff. A student developed and managed the survey. It was adopted in 2018. It was combined with the literacy assessment.

We've had 667 respondents so far. Initial assessment done by sustainability officer, but will be further reviewed by Senate Sustainability Committee and others.
A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment, including a description of any measurable changes over time:
Students tend to believe that sustainability related issues are important or very important on a global level. Nearly 90% of students believe SDSU should prepare for and work to prevent climate change, while over 90% believe we should conserve energy and water, use renewable energy, and recycle. 82% of students believe that sustainability is very important while 15% believe its somewhat important. The majority students believe it's very important to integrate sustainability into their everyday life. Nearly 30% of students are interested in a bike share program. Unfortunately, nearly 50% of students have not taken a single course related to sustainability. Students are open to limiting or eliminating plastic straws on campus.
