A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:
EcoReps is a program led by students who are interested in implementing sustainability to enhance the campus community by preparing educated, conscious, and engaged students. Our mission is to establish sustainability as the core of campus culture by fostering a sense of environmental stewardship by educating the campus and community on sustainability topics. Some ways EcoReps have outreached include: giving campus sustainability tours, connecting with the campus by tabling at the Farmers’ Market, hosting events in the residence halls (i.e. Swap Shop, Coffee Hot, Let’s Talk: Sustainability), bin labeling events, and “Trash Talking” at university events.

A brief description of how the student educators are selected:
The EcoReps Program Coordinator is hired as a student intern and acts as the main student educator. This intern was selected through a selection process with a resume and interview by the office staff and interns. Anyone can join the EcoReps program by attending meetings and events and filling out the form online; there is no selection process for these general student educators.

A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
EcoReps attend weekly meetings in which most of the content training takes place. Presentations are provided on specific sustainability topics and focus on campus sustainability background and current initiatives. Discussion questions are provided to inspire problem-solving that is beneficial to all (i.e. environmental justice). Expectations are presented at the beginning of the semesters while tour guides and LEEDs also have additional expectations. EcoReps who are tour guides prepares for peer outreach by attending a second weekly training. They receive a training packet with the script and supplemental resources then most training is done by running through the tour route with a tour certified EcoRep.

A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or faculty/staff coordination):
EcoReps is a program within the Office of Sustainability that is housed under Facilities Services. The EcoReps intern is supported by an office budget with funds from the University. The Office does get funding from Pepsi which is mostly used for promotional items. The closest partnership EcoReps has is with the Housing Administration. They have funded small amounts for sustainability events in the halls and have used their staff to promote EcoReps initiatives. Overall, EcoReps does not currently have an ongoing, sustainable source of funding.
