Although SDSU's athletic teams has green efforts, there is an absence of a formal program. Associated Students' Viejas Arena has recently been awarded United States' Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (EB:O+M) Gold. All food vendors at Viejas Arena during athletic events are Green Restaurant Association (GRA) certified. Many on-campus athletic fields are on artificial turf and use a resource management system, CalSense, for water conservation. San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) occasionally provides free active/public transportation rides to football events to the San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) stadium in the fall semester and has media advertising it.
