The highest decision making organization within the student government at SDSU is the A.S. Board of Directors and its three A.S. Councils, the A.S. Campus Life Council, A.S. University Council and A.S. Judicial Affairs Council. The backbone of the student government are the A.S. boards, committees, and commissions which offer great opportunities for current students to become active members and leaders within the SDSU community. https://as.sdsu.edu/govt/ The California State University system's highest governing body is the California State University Board of Trustees. The Governor appoints two student trustees to this body from nominees proposed by the California State Student Association. These student trustees serve staggered two-year terms. One student trustee has full voting powers; the second, non-voting student trustee succeeds to the voting position upon the expiration of the term of the first. The student trustees serve alongside Governor of California, the Lieutenant Governor of California, the Speaker of the Assembly, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the CSU Chancellor, sixteen Governor Appointees confirmed by two-thirds of the State Senate, one alumni association representative appointed by the Governor, and one faculty member appoint by the Governor. http://www.csustudents.org/who-we-are/student-trustees/

San Diego State University (SDSU) operates under a shared governance philosophy -- where each member of the community (whether faculty, student, staff, or administrator) has an opportunity to weigh in on matters of policy and procedure. SDSU's governing bodies include the Office of the President, the University Senate, and Associated Students. The University Senate includes several staff members: Staff (four, non-Management Personnel Plan [MPP]); the electorate consists of all permanent and temporary non-MPP staff, including probationary staff. One staff Senator position is reserved for an SDSU-IV Campus staff member. Managers (one, Management Personnel Plan [MPP], Classes 1 and 2); the electorate consists of all MPP staff, Classes 1 and 2. https://senate.sdsu.edu/

San Diego State University (SDSU) operates under a shared governance philosophy -- where each member of the community (whether faculty, student, staff, or administrator) has an opportunity to weigh in on matters of policy and procedure. SDSU's governing bodies include the Office of the President, the University Senate, and Associated Students. The University Senate includes faculty representatives: Professors, who are apportioned annually; tenured and tenure-track faculty in each major academic unit (the seven Colleges on the San Diego campus, plus the Imperial Valley campus) elect the number of Senators equivalent to 8% of the tenured/tenure-track full-time equivalent faculty positions (FTEF) assigned to that unit. This method of appointment always yields at least one Senator for each major academic unit. The Governor of California appoints a Faculty Trustee from nominees proposed by the Statewide Academic Senate. SDSU adheres to the California Environmental Quality Act's (CEQA) Environmental Impact Report process to engage external stakeholders in land use planning, capital investment projects, and other institutional decisions that affect our local community. SDSU Mission Valley recently followed through the CEQA process by conducting a Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR), held numerous community meetings, and made revisions in its Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR). http://missionvalley.sdsu.edu/community-engagement.html

As a member of the California State University (CSU) system, SDSU is responsible to the CSU Board of Trustees. The Board is comprised of a combination of ex-officio members, a CSU Alumni appointee, student appointees, and an array of other appointees by the Governor of California who represent diverse stakeholder interests from across the state. The 25-member Board of Trustees adopts regulations and policies governing the entire CSU system. Board committees have authority over educational policy, finance, campus planning, and facilities, among other areas.
