A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:
When designing sustainable buildings, SCU typically uses LEED as a guide. The University has no written policy for developing sustainable buildings; however, each project is looked at on a case-by-case basis to determine what can reasonably be accomplished in terms of a sustainable design. SCU also follows California state guidelines for energy conservation and construction. At the end of the project, each building is commissioned, which is part of the LEED guidelines and criteria.
Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Santa Clara University is awaiting the LEED Gold New Buildings certification for the Paul L. Locatelli S.J. Student Activity Center (16,284 sq ft), along with a LEED Gold Major Renovations certification for the Donohoe Alumni House (8,376 sq ft) for a total of 24,660 sq ft newly certified green building space. We expect to receive the LEED Certification in 2011.
