Santa Clara University established the Office for Diversity and Inclusion in 2013. The Office for Diversity and Inclusion fosters the University's commitment to the education of the whole person in the Jesuit tradition through support for the recruitment, retention, and success of a diverse community of faculty, staff and students, and through collaborations with other offices to promote academic excellence through a diverse and inclusive campus climate. The Office for Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) works closely with the Office for Multicultural Learning (OML) in Student Life. OML coordinates, collaborates, and promotes cross-campus programming and related initiates for the purposes of enhancing the University’s goals in the areas of diversity and inclusive excellence. OML fulfills its work by coordinating and facilitating an array of academic and co-curricular programming for students. In addition, the University has two councils devoted to advancing inclusivity in the Santa Clara campus community. The Council of Inclusive Excellence was established in 2007 as a 19-person council of high-ranking students, staff, and faculty to implement formal actions to advance inclusivity. The Student Council on Inclusive Excellence was founded in 2008 to serve in an advisory role to the the Council of Inclusive Excellence. The Student Council works to communicate the student body's voice on issues related to diversity, multicultural learning and inclusive excellence; to share information on diversity, multicultural learning and inclusive excellence from their respective organizations; and to provide a channel of communication from the Council to their respective organizations.

A brief description of the institution’s cultural competence trainings and activities for each of the groups identified above:
The University sponsors a variety of cultural competence trainings for all community members including difficult dialogue events, perspectives trainings, anti-bullying workshops, and workshops targeted for various identity competencies (e.g sexual orientation, gender identity, etc.). The Office for Multicultural Learning, the Rainbow Resource Center and the Office for Diversity and Inclusion also host 90-minute LGTBQ safe space trainings for individuals and departments on campus. The Office for Diversity and Inclusion does an Inclusive Search Training for all Tenure-Track search committees, and in Summer 2016, in partnership with Human Resources, this Inclusive Search training is required for all staff hiring managers. In addition, in Spring 2017, the Office for Diversity and Inclusion initiated a new UndocAlly training.
