The Climate Action Secretariat, a division of the BC government, is responsible for purchasing verified carbon offsets on behalf of all public sector institutions in British Columbia, of which Selkirk College is one.

Selkirk Castlegar campus runs an onsite composting program. The total weight of organic materials deposited in the Earth Tub unit was calculated for the 2021 performance year and then converted to tCO2e using the ICLEI Recycling and Composting Emissions Protocol formula found here: https://circulars.iclei.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ICLEI_recycling_composting_protocol_v1.pdf

A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:
The GHG baseline data is from the 2008 calendar year. Selkirk College had a State of the Environment Report written in 2009 which used 2008 data to benchmark environmental conditions at the College. GHG emissions, among other environmental indicators, were calculated in this report according to the World Resources Institute Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
