A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:
Board of Governors:
Board members play an important role, flowing from their responsibility as trustees of the public interest. The board carries out these activities through monthly board meetings which are open to the public. The Board of Governors is composed of external members who reflect the various sectors of the community served by the college and several internal members representing students, faculty, support staff and the president.

Selkirk College Students' Union (SCSU):
The Selkirk College Students' Union (SCSU) is a non-profit organization registered under the BC Societies Act.The SCSU acts as the official representative group and collective voice of the students of Selkirk College. The organization works tirelessly towards the betterment of student life in the Kootenays, British Columbia and Canada. As Local 2 of the British Columbia Federation of Students, the SCSU represents our members to the provincial executive committee. Together with other BC student-led organizations, the BCFS strives towards free education for BC students along with providing provincial-wide services and advocacy campaigns.

Academic Staff:
- Selkirk College Faculty Association (SCFA) is a bargaining unit representing instructional faculty and faculty assistants in Business, Digital Media, Health Services, Kootenay Studio Arts, Music, Environment & Geomatics, and University Arts & Sciences, as well as librarians and counselors. They are a member (Local 10) of the Federation of Post-Secondary Educators of BC (FPSE).
- BC Government Employees Union (BCGEU) represents those in the schools of International, Academic & Development, Industry Trades & Training, Digital Media and Continuing Education & Distributed Learning.

Non-Academic Staff:
- Public and Private Workers of Canada (PPWC) is a bargaining unit representing support staff at the College. Members are in the areas of Food Service, IT Services, Student Services, Health and Safety, Maintenance and Building Service Workers and Campus support across the campuses.
