A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
Coaching for Success: Coaching is a free, comfortable, informal service the college offers to help students navigate life’s many choices: school, future, time, study skills and health. The coaches within this program promote a positive college experience by offering allies to students who can listen, brainstorm options and help develop an action plan to reach personal goals.
Student Counselling Services: The counselors at Selkirk College are professionals trained to provide a variety of counseling services. Appointments and short drop-in sessions are available at all campuses. Their role is to assist students to gather information, make plans and decisions, put plans and decisions into action, generate options, cope with a crisis, and understand themselves and others. Short-term personal counseling is available for students at all main campuses. When appropriate, referrals are made to community agencies and services.
Employee Counselling Services: Employee Family Assistance Program gives professional, confidential counseling services to employees and their dependent families. EFAP can provide you with counseling, advice or information. Their staff includes psychologists, social workers, addictions counselors and family, and relationship specialists. Employees can also access online self-help resources.
Learning Success Centre: Students can access one-on-one tutoring and workshops that focus on effective learning and study skills. They can also access support for things such as Time and Stress Management and Exam Anxiety.
Employee Mental Health: Employees can take advantage of the "Best Care" guides, available on the online Staff Resource Centre, that offer help to people who struggle with worry, tension, and nervousness.
Healthy Campus: Healthy Campus initiatives at Selkirk aim to consider the whole person in the learning environment, infusing health into everyday operations from business practices to academic mandates. Initiatives include bystander training, sexual violence prevention, LGBTQ inclusion, a student ambassador program, stress reduction, and mindfulness programs.
