A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Fume Hood exhaust summer decommissioning: we designed an exhaust system in our LEED silver Spencer Hall science building that anticipates the minimal usage of chemical fume hoods in teaching labs in the summer. Thus, we designed the new fume hood exhaust system so that the hoods could be emptied, cleaned, and decommissioned for about three months a year. Once decommissioned the exhaust and tempered make-up air quantities to these labs is minimized. This design required special controls and procedures to make it possible.
