A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
The Slippery Rock University Sustainable Enterprise Accelerator is the first university-affiliated entrepreneurship center to emphasize the integration of sustainable business practices into nascent firms. While several universities have centers promote the development of green tech or social entrepreneurship, only a few provide services oriented at sustainability integration and only for established firms. SEA represents a landmark initiative that has received a lot of attention from regional stakeholders and continues to increase its reach through promotional events, the provision of services, and through faculty research efforts. SEA provides programs that encourage the development of sustainable student enterprises, facilitates faculty-mentored student consulting opportunities involving sustainable practices for regional businesses, and provides workshops, lectures, and guest speakers on business sustainability topics.
