1st Program

Name of the employee educators program:
"Green Leaves" Sustainable Department self-certification program

Number of employees served (i.e. directly targeted) by the program (headcount):
23

A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:
Modeled after the Harvard University "Green Office" program, the Green Leaves Program is designed to raise awareness about sustainability by engaging faculty and staff at the departmental level, while reducing the department's carbon footprint. A student worker for the Sustainable Enterprise Accelerator, with assistance from the Director of Sustainability, piloted this program for the Parks and Recreation Department during the Fall 2017 semester. The pilot program included providing education and training to a "Green Team Leader" (full-time administrative assistant) in documenting the departmental green practices and using a spreadsheet (with links and tips on specific ways to reduce their carbon footprint) to self-certify the department. In 2018, the Bailey Library Operations Department became the second department to obtain certification through this program.

A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:
The employee educator is typically selected by the department faculty, in concert with the Director of Sustainability. The desired traits of the department's Green Team Leader included: 1. An interest in sustainability 2. Full-time, year-round staff (to ensure continuity of the program throughout the year and from year to year) 3. Administrative staff member responsible for orienting and training new department staff and faculty.

A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
The employee educator (Green Team Leader) is typically trained by the Director of Sustainability, with the assistance of the SEA student worker, in the use of the self-certification spreadsheet (which itself includes tips and links to specific sustainability topics and promotes self-education). Due to the nature of the spreadsheet and its resource links, the employee educators can also be self-taught once they become familiar with the spreadsheet.

A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):
Administrative support for this program is provided by Sustainable Enterprise Accelerator's student intern participation, and that of the Director of Sustainability.

If reporting employees served by additional peer-to-peer programs, provide:
