A brief description of the institution’s employee community service initiatives:
Community service initiatives cover a wide variety of activities including campus cleanups, eliminating invasive plant species at the nearby Jennings Environmental Center, working with local volunteer organizations such as the Rotary Club and Slippery Rock in Bloom to help with gardening and recycling services, staffing tables at Earth Week activities, etc.
All members of the faculty, tenure-track and probationary, are encouraged to complete community service and provide evidence through the faculty review evaluation procedure. Each faculty member is required to submit a portfolio which is reviewed for promotion. Under the category of Service: Contributions to the University and/or Community, each faculty member is asked to detail all service projects within SRU and the surrounding community that advances his/her discipline. Community service is one of three parameters by which faculty are reviewed and evaluated. For more information related to community service by faculty, see pages 12 and 13 in the attached document.
