"Healthy People, Healthy Planet Summer Camp and Community Project Incubator"

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
SRU was the recipient of an EPA Model Environmental Education grant for developing an innovative environmental education summer camp for teams of high school teachers and students who were interested in creating an environmental education/stewardship project for their local community. At the end of the camp, each team was provided seed money to fund the community project of their choice. These thirteen projects are located in 8 counties, with the potential to raise environmental awareness among a population of more than 2 million residents. As one participating teacher stated, this program was unique in that it extended the learning experience of the students way beyond the end of the summer camp to include a year-long community project execution phase. The project won a PA Governor's Environmental Education Award (see attached file for more details about the program, as submitted for this award).
