A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
All Ph.D. students in the Pharmaceutical Sciences program are required to participate in “Radiation Safety Training” and “Chemical Hygiene and Laboratory Safety” organized by the Office of Environmental Health & Safety to ensure proper handling of these hazardous materials so that they do not cause pollution to the environment. For the Ph.D of Pharmaceutical Science and the Doctor of Pharmacy, they emphasize respect for different religions and cultures. In the summer of 2014, a member of the Student Sustainability Council attended about half of the New Student Orientation session. The member stood by the recycling bins and discussed the purpose of recycling, what can/cannot be recycled at SDSU, and the color-coding of bin lids.
