A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
SOU's New Student Orientation conducted their Raider Ready and Week of Welcome on the Socio online platform. This eliminated paper schedules, reduced carbon footprint with remote & hybrid options, scavenger hunts were digital and reduced the amount of signage printed and used.
Additional ways that sustainability was included in new student orientation included:
- Incorporating a local Farmer's Market tour during the week of welcome
- Raider Ambassadors highlight SOU's sustainability efforts during tours such as pointing out pollinator zones, The Farm, etc
- Accessible recycling bins (for bottles and larger cardboard) throughout Raider Village during Move-In, encouraging the use of water refill stations rather than single-use plastic water bottles
- The Hawk dining commons has a great display of how to sort your recycling & trash and displaying where the food is from.
