Examples of institutional policies and programs that help keep an SOU education accessible to our low-income students include:

• Application fee waived for low-income prospective SOU students upon the request of their high school guidance counselor
• The application fee will be waived for students who attend an Application Workshop or SOU’s Friday info sessions
• Deferral of the Matriculation Fee until financial aid has been disbursed to students
• Test optional admission
• On-campus housing is waived for local students
• Merit scholarships for OR resident first-year students start at 2.85 GPA
• First-year students who take Military Science courses get 50% off their housing
• Jackson-Josephine County Pledge
• Success at Southern (TRiO Program)
• Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program
• Bridge Program (offers up to 4 free credits)

SOU has implemented a number of micro-credential programs and non-degree pathways to help non-traditional students learn new skills. These include some 100% online masters programs in fields including but not limited to a Masters in Business Administration and a Masters in Education.
