Dorm Recycling Program

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
Recycling Technicians are paid student workers assigned to each on-campus residence hall and charged with educating and assisting all residents on proper recycling and waste disposal practices. Technicians also collect and educate on specified donations to local food banks, used clothing stores, and on-campus donation drives.

Training for the RTs is carried out by staff in the Office of Sustainability before the start of the Fall (and Spring semesters according to new staff). In this training, RTs will learn about waste practices on campus, brainstorm ways to collaborate with RAs in building programs, and become student educators in campus sustainability efforts.

Oz Peer Health Educators

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):
The Oz Peer Health Educators work within the Office of the Dean of Students to provide students at SUNY Oswego with information and education sot hey can make informed decisions regarding their health and well-being. Student Educators move to campus early before the semester starts to attend training that involves learning core health lessons, team building, and outreach exercises. Examples of outreach activities include Safe Space Training, De-Stress workshops, and Bystander Intervention Training.

The target audience for the Oz Peer Health Educators is undergraduate and graduate students.

SUNY Oswego Sexperts

A brief description of the student educators program (3rd program):
The Sexperts are student educators with extensive training on the topic of sexual and reproductive health and share that information with their peers through outreach, presentations, and other on-campus events. The Sexperts can be requested to speak to any organization and student group on campus.

Training for becoming a Sexpert involves moving onto campus before the semester begins to attend training sessions.

The Sexperts' goal is to create a safe environment where students feel comfortable talking or learning about sex and related topics. Common topics of focus include contraceptives, sex and dating, sexually transmitted infections, anatomy, LGBTQ+, consent, and "is it normal?", among others. Students ask questions anonymously before or during a program and we answer them. Interactive games are played sporadically throughout each program.

Vote Oswego is a group that focuses on helping the Oswego community make an impact in all elections by stressing the importance of political participation no matter the political affiliation; making registration fun, easy, and secure; providing personalized support, and encouraging eligible voters to submit absentee ballots or go to the polls.

Vote Oswego works with both the SUNY Oswego campus community and the greater City of Oswego community.
