Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Environmental Scholars Program
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
The Environmental Scholars Program is a National Science Foundation-funded scholarship program to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. This program at ESF is geared toward promoting inclusive excellence with a goal of creating a more diverse student population. The program provides financial aid to students in STEM majors. Students receiving these scholarships, the Environmental Scholars, participate in cohort building activities such as a three-day opening retreat and then a seminar series designed to engage them in discussions and debates about global environmental issues such as global climate change. Further, students in this program engage in service learning, and create a project designed to either educate others on global climate change or to increase capacity in local Syracuse environmental justice neighborhoods to engage in environmentally sound practices.
