A brief description of the incentive program(s):
Occasionally, academic departments will offer summer salary for curriculum updates and creation. This work includes the creation of sustainability courses and the integration of sustainability concepts into existing courses. Examples of newly developed sustainability-focused courses are listed below.
Each year, ESF hosts a Faculty Mentoring Colloquium. During the colloquium, faculty have the opportunity to exchange best practices, lessons learned, and opportunities to align coursework with the departmental goals and college learning outcomes. This often includes discussion about integrating sustainability into existing course work or developing new sustainability courses or certificate programs.
Since Spring 2020, 54 new courses have been added to the ESF curriculum and 42 courses underwent revisions. Many of the newly added courses are sustainability-focused including:
- EST 204: Diversity and Knowledge of the Environment
- EST 407: Assessment for Environmental Programs
- EST 616: Global Perspectives on Environmental Justice
- EST 617: Measuring Environmental Inequality
- FOR 421: Practical Ethics for Resource Managers
- SRE 150: Introduction to Sustainable Energy Management
- SRE 496: Special Topics in Sustainable Energy Management
- SRE 650: Climate and Sustainability Science & Practice I
- SRE 660: Climate and Sustainability Science & Practice II
- SUS 296: Special Topics in Sustainability Management
- SUS 335: Applied Statistics for Sustainability
- SUS 365: Sustainability and Behavior Change
- SUS 415: Sustainable Agriculture

A brief description of the incentives that academic staff who participate in the program(s) receive:
Faculty receive financial incentives through summer salary. The mentoring colloquium is a professional development and training opportunity for faculty to learn from one another about how to create and facilitate the most effective courses.
