"Experts at ESF" brings together scholarship, expertise and activities by the scholars of ESF to share its rich story of discovery over the College's 111 years of study of the forest and environment. Consistent with ESF's commitment to Open Access, this repository hosts a wide variety of research, including publications and data, as well as material from the College Archives and theses and dissertations.

In 2020, ESF adopted, through its Academic Governance structure, an Open Access and System Repository policy to comply with a SUNY Mandate. The relevant text in the policy is included here:

"Each University Author grants to the University nonexclusive permission to make available their scholarly articles and to exercise the copyright in those articles."

"...the permission granted by each Author is a nonexclusive, irrevocable, paid-up, worldwide license to exercise any and all rights under copyright relating to each of his or her scholarly articles, in any medium, and to authorize others to do the same, for the purpose of open dissemination."

"Authors can request a waiver of the Open Access Policy for any article or work." (Opt out)

"The faculty calls upon the Library System to make the scholarly article available to the public in an open-access repository and to develop and monitor a plan for a service or mechanism that would render compliance with the policy as convenient for the faculty as possible."

A brief description of the open access APC fund:
The Library has negotiated a read and publish agreement with Cambridge University Press which covers completely OA APCs for many of their titles.

The Library has also negotiated a discount rate provided via Elsevier (https://www.elsevier.com/open-access/agreements/state-university-of-new-york).

ESF Faculty are able to participate in Syracuse University’s Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI) which provides a 10% discount on article processing charges for MDPI Journals. Details on MDPI APCs can be found at this link: https://www.mdpi.com/apc
