A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
A survey to assess the number of employees conducting sustainability research was sent to all ESF faculty through an email from the Office of Communications and Marketing and shared in Campus News (email to campus community). A reminder email was sent towards the end of the survey period to gain more responses. Prior to performing the assessment, incomplete, duplicate, and invalid responses were removed as these were omitted from the survey results.
In the survey, faculty were explicitly asked if they perform, lead, or oversee research at ESF and if that research met the definition of sustainability research. The definition of sustainability research provided and used for the purposes of this survey was: “Sustainability research is defined as research and scholarship that explicitly addresses the concept of sustainability, furthers our understanding of the interdependence of ecological and social/economic systems, or has a primary and explicit focus on a major sustainability challenge.”
