A brief description of the institution’s green event certification program:
ESF's Sustainable Event Certification Program offers two tiers of certification: Certified and Platinum. Certified events must achieve 40% of applicable points with at least 1 point from 4 categories. Platinum events must achieve 70% of applicable points with at least 2 points from 5 categories.
Categories include:
- Inclusion, diversity and equity
- Zero waste
- Advertising, décor and giveaways
- Food & dining
- Energy
- Water
- Transportation
The certification program features a Guide (Sustainable Event Checklist, Sustainable Catering Guide, Carbon Offset Credit Guide, Water Restoration Credit Guide and Alternative Giveaways Guide) and certification spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hNl_I6nEXv3lO9rRp5a5mi4HPR_cI4WdKiXdgy897e4/edit#gid=1385371153).
Event planners are able to request planning and certification assistance from the Office of Sustainability.
In 2022, three events were awarded "Certified" status and five achieved "Platinum" status
