A brief description of the sustainable operations and maintenance policy/program and/or O+M rating system(s) used:
Location and Transportation
- Bicycle storage and showers are provided to members of campus community
- Syracuse campus is served by the Connective Corridor bus, which offers a free bus loop between the University Hill and downtown Syracuse, and Syracuse University's campus shuttle service (runs predetermined routes and is also available for on demand pickup)
- Syracuse campus offers a bike library program where students can rent bikes for free
- New construction limits parking and installs EV charging stations
- Syracuse campus has 10 EV charging stations (18 ports) available to the campus community 24 hours/day. Level 2 and DCFC charging stations in planning stages for Newcomb campus.

Sustainable Sites
- Low-Impact Site and Green Building Exterior Management Plan: https://www.esf.edu/employees/policies/sustainability/policies-green-sustainable-campus.php
- Erosion & Sedimentation Control Policy: https://www.esf.edu/employees/policies/sustainability/policy-erosion-sedimentation-control.php
- Rainwater management prevalent throughout campus: Green roofs, rain gardens, bioswales, rainwater harvesting systems, permeable pavers, porous pavement, no mow zones
- Heat island reduction: Building construction and large scale renovation include emphasis on increasing native/pollinator friendly green spaces and increased tree cover to the greatest extent possible

Water Efficiency
- Only low-flow toilets or faucets are purchased

Energy and Atmosphere
- VSD (variable speed drives) are used to control major HVAC equipment
- Before old equipment is removed, all refrigerant is collected and disposed of properly
- During break periods heat / cooling setpoints are changed to save energy, as campus is less densely occupied during those times

Materials and Resources
- Green Purchasing and Break Free From Plastic Policy:

- Sustainable Facilities Maintenance and Renovation Policy

- ESF as an institution has adopted zero waste goals: 1) Achieve 90% diversion from landfill and incineration by 2025 and 2) Achieve 90% reduction in material sent to landfill and incineration by 2025. This active program includes constant stakeholder engagement and robust data tracking, using the TRUE materials tracking template. As a whole, the College is working to prioritize reusable and durable products over single use products of any type (ex: recyclable or compostable) to the greatest extent possible. The above referenced Green Purchasing Policy bans the purchase of many types of single use plastics with state funds for use on campus or at college events. It also reiterates the College's deep commitment to GreenNY purchasing standards.

Indoor Environmental Quality
- Tobacco and Smoke Free Policy
https://www.esf.edu/employees/policies/policies-tobacco-free.php
- Green Cleaning Program
https://www.esf.edu/sustainability/projects/green_cleaning.php
- Integrated pest management is standard across all ESF campuses. The College has further solidified this commitment through its 2021 Bee Campus USA affiliation

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Compliance and integration with the sustainable operations policies/practices outlined above have been largely focused on the Syracuse campus throughout the reporting cycle. Efforts are being made to work beyond the Syracuse campus to integrate many of the listed policies at ESF regional campuses (ex: green cleaning, tobacco and smoke free, integrated pest management and purchasing), but more robust and holistic engagement is needed. Therefore, the 927,395 square feet figure reported above includes only the Syracuse campus and not regional campuses in an effort to avoid potential overreporting.
