A brief description of the institution’s community garden:
The Our Food garden is a lab component of a a biology and environmental studies course offered at the College called "Our Food". This garden is kept as an educational demonstration, situated in a heavily-trafficked foot path by community members and students alike. The crops, including kale, broccoli, cornflower, and Mexican tarragon, are harvested throughout the summer for free vegetable-giveaways to students, staff, and faculty members.
The Good Food Project Garden is a student-run garden that yields fruits and vegetables year-round and has been sold to local food Co-ops, the College dining hall, and donated to local food pantries in the past. The mission of the student group that manages the garden is a commitment to social and environmental responsibility by way of local food systems.
Additionally, with oversight by Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College, community members maintain gardens to grow food and plants, sharing ideas, knowledge and their bounty with each other and the greater community at large.
