A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
All new and transferring students complete a whole of campus orientation followed by a class-specific orientation with their educator/s. Students connect via a series of fun activities with weekly lunchbox sessions held to promote sustainable practices. At the beginning of orientation and at follow-up sustainability focus sessions, students are asked 'What does sustainability mean to you?'
At the whole of campus orientation, students are informed about:
*The campus build and the 6 selected UN SDGs for Robina Campus
*The Active Transport Program and the discount/tokens program. All students are provided with a Transport Map developed in partnership with the City of Gold Coast Council
*The Technology Enabled Active Learning (TEAL) spaces and the advantages of the spaces in helping students to learn including the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and discounts available with JB HiFi
*Floor themes, features, and general layout
*The 'live training' venues - restaurant, cafe, event centre, hair, barber and beauty salons, and gym
*Sustainability initiatives - solar panels, recycling and how to use the bins, composter, no plastic policy, single-use items, paper minimisation, greenery, repurposed timber, and the rainwater tanks
*Discounts available for using keep items
*Partnerships with Raba Urban Farm, Envirobank, Ozharvest, BeHive, Sustainable Salons, the City of Gold Coast Council, and other partnerships
*Upcoming events to build partnerships and inform and the schedule of weekly lunchbox sessions to inform, participate and engage with staff, other students, and sustainability advocates and experts.
At their class-specific orientation, students hear from educators about how sustainability is embedded into every unit of study. Students are encouraged to be involved with educators outlining the range of opportunities available.
Our international students complete a different orientation program which is specifically aimed to welcome and support our new international students. International students have two orientation sessions to attend. W: https://tafeqld.edu.au/current-students/new-students/orientation
