A brief description of the institution’s efforts to support alternative fuel and power technology in its motorized fleet:
Facilities Management continues to replace its aging fleet with alternate energy powered vehicles. Temple has invested in a fast-fill CNG stations to fuel CNG vehicles at the Main Campus in Philadelphis. Temple has employed CNG fleet vehicles for the last 20 years. In addition, the University has a made a significant committment to local air quality with its recent purchase of 7 propane fueled buses. School buses fueled by propane emit fewer nitrogen oxides and virtually eliminate particulate matter when compared to diesel. Propane has the lowest on-site emission rate of the major energy sources, with the exception of natural gas. Considering that this segment of the fleet experiences the highest utilization, the University is making a significant impact on ambient air pollution in an urban area by the utilization of these vehicles and the demonstration of their viability to the public.
