A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
First-Year Students and Transfer Students:

During SOAR (Student, Orientation, Advisement, & Registration) and Transfer Orientations, the Office of Sustainability is present with a student led informational table. This includes all incoming first-year and transfer students. The goal is to increase interest in sustainability and to show the many opportunities that TnTech offers in terms of sustainability. For orientation, an informational sheet is included in all students folders that includes information about the Office of Sustainability, including our social media platforms and email. Educating students about the Green Fee that is included in tuition that cover sustainability initiatives around campus is a major goal as well.

During the Welcome Week event Mix & Mingle, reusable water bottles are handed out to students to take home and use on a daily basis, promoting a more sustainable lifestyle. Students are educated on the hydration stations that are located in every building on campus as a way to reduce single-use plastics. At this event many other student groups hand out sustainable materials including reusable straws from Green Chemistry group.
