We offer a series of online workshops to educate TMU students, faculty, and staff on a variety of sustainability topics including waste management, climate change, and environmental awareness. Examples of our most recent workshops include those listed below:

The ABCs of GHGs - As the world shifts toward decarbonization, understanding and quantifying institutional emissions from a wide range of operations is becoming increasingly important. This Lunch and Learn session explored how TMU calculates its carbon footprint from a variety of operations including travel, catering, waste management, and building operations

Sustainability and Happiness Around the World - Although current times may feel daunting and uncertain, there are still examples of sustainability and happiness occurring everyday. During this session , we will share some examples of happiness, wellbeing and sustainability that are happening around the world. We will also be discussing ways that we can all celebrate sustainability, happiness and wellbeing during difficult times.

What Waste Goes Where - Learning what waste goes where is the first step towards proper waste diversion. This online workshop will guide you through how to properly sort waste and what happens to our waste once it leaves campus. While we might not be on campus right now, find out how you can help contribute to a more sustainable campus when we return.

Zero-Waste Refresher Course - As a waste monitor, it is important that you are up-to-date and knowledgeable about waste management in order to lead, inspire and educate others to change their behaviours. This training course will go through frequently asked questions that waste monitors often receive from the Ryerson community, as well as specific engagement methods to use during future waste monitoring shifts.

Also, TMU employees have the opportunity to pursue further education in sustainability free of charge, by taking related courses offered by the Chang School of Continuing Education where tuition is reimbursed by the university. This includes TMU's Certificates in Sustainability Management, Energy Management and Conservation, Environmental Sciences, and Enterprise Process Excellence among others.

In addition, the Sustainability Office offers personalized office waste audits upon request. These audits serve to determine the waste diversion rates and the percent contamination of the office’s streams and provide a waste training session to their team. This is done to inform and educate office staff on best waste management practices and correct common errors to improve their office waste diversion rates.

TMU employees can also pursue further education at other institutions and receive a tuition rebate for work-related or professional development courses approved by TMU.
