Tufts is committed to making sure that all qualified applicants can afford a Tufts education. All financial aid is awarded on the basis of financial need, as determined through the analysis of family resources. Financial aid packages are comprised of a combination of grants, loans, and work study. Tufts meets 100% of the full demonstrated need of all admitted students regardless of citizenship status and awards more than $112 million in need-based financial aid to more than 58% of the student body. A brief description of notable policies or programs to support non-traditional students:
The REAL Program (Resumed Education for Adult Learning) The REAL Program provides a full-time Tufts undergraduate education for adults seeking a Bachelor's degree (BS in Engineering or BA or BS in Liberal Arts). The program is intended for students who are 24 years of age or older, parents, married, veterans, or currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. REAL students may concentrate in any of the majors or minors open to all Tufts undergraduates in the BA or BS degree programs. Financial aid is available. Applicants should have some college experience, including at least two courses taken at either a two- or four-year institution within the last five years.
REAL students attend the same courses and earn the same degree as other Tufts undergraduates. REAL students are welcome to participate in the many student organizations and have access to all university facilities such as the library, the Academic Resource Center, the counseling center, and the gymnasium, with its state of the art fitness center.
First semester REAL students participate in a credit-bearing seminar that addresses adjustment issues of the adult student while introducing students to Tufts resources. https://students.tufts.edu/academic-advice-and-support/real-program
Tufts offers students, including non-traditional students, a number of academic support services, including the opportunity for on-call writing tutoring with Graduate Writing Consultants. https://students.tufts.edu/staar-center
