UMass Chan Medical School's Sustainability and Climate Action Plan implementation teams consist of three focus groups representing three main areas in the 2021-2026 Sustainability and Climate Action Plan (SCAP) for UMass Chan. Each group consists of students, faculty, and staff interested in collaborating towards the goals of the plan, splitting into focus areas to align interests and strengths. The three groups represent Buildings and Energy, Grounds and Transportation, and Materials and Resource Management. Each group aims to accomplish the goals and tasks set for the University in the SCAP.

The Office of Sustainability over the past three years has
- Held three well-attended Earth Day/Earth Month programming (in-person, hybrid, and remote) through the course of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Earth Month 2023 featured a three-part webinar series on UMass Chan's decarbonization planning strategies, a home electronics recycling event, a green labs summit, a smoothie bike, bingo, and more!
- In 2022, UMass Chan embarked on its Decarbonization Study in partnership with Arup and GreenerU, a process that involves a internal project team and an engaged Decarbonization Task Force consisting of staff, faculty, students, and state government representatives. Together, these groups have been kept informed of the planning process, created goals, and prioritized values for the planning process, which is set for completion in September 2023.
- Expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure
- Eliminated Plastic from the open-air coolers in the café
- Expanded the community garden twice, first with an additional 2 beds and 7 blueberry bushes
- Creation of an IT Sustainability Group that convened to achieve the EPEAT Award administered by the Global Electronics Council
