Total number of academic departments (or the equivalent) that include at least one faculty or staff member that conducts research includes not only the 35 academic departments that conduct research within the three schools, but also an additional Centers, Institutes and other organizational entities at UMass Chan that also conduct research--many as their primary function. These Centers, Institutes and other entities are supported by UMass Chan resources including the Office of Research, and are therefore included as part of the research inventory.
