The Environmental Committee at the Universidad Científica del Sur is tasked with regulating the activities and functions of the committee as a whole and its individual members. Its primary goal is to ensure the planning, development of management documents, effective implementation, dissemination, and execution of the University's Environmental Policy by all members of the educational community, their strategic allies, and others as deemed necessary to achieve its overall objective.
Specific objectives of the Environmental Committee include:
- Promoting, disseminating, and implementing the approved Environmental Policy of the Universidad Científica del Sur, thereby upholding a longstanding commitment since its foundation.
- Identifying and evaluating environmental impacts generated or to be generated as a result of activities within the university campus or by members of the university community. This is done to facilitate effective actions for conflict resolution or mitigation, thereby contributing to the alignment with the Environmental Policy's guidelines.
- Fostering, disseminating, and implementing mechanisms that foster a comprehensive environmental consciousness among all members of the university community and its stakeholders.
- Encouraging, promoting, and implementing mechanisms to reduce consumerism within the university community, particularly regarding goods and services with environmental impacts, subsequently influencing Climate Change and the sustainable development of vulnerable populations.
- Promoting and coordinating the planning, design, and execution of research and innovation projects that contribute to the understanding of biodiversity, priority ecosystems for conservation, or the resolution of environmental issues on a national or global scale.
- Promoting, evaluating, and implementing educational content that enhances environmentally sustainable knowledge and skills within the university's undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
- Establishing Universidad Científica del Sur's reputation as a socially and environmentally responsible institution.
- Contributing to the country's fulfillment of international environmental commitments and ensuring compliance with national environmental legislation.
