SIFE is an international non-profit organization that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize university students to make a difference in their communities while developing skills to become socially responsible business leaders. Participating students form teams on their university campuses and apply business concepts to develop outreach projects that improve life quality for people in need.
SIFE UDEM develops different activities such as: finance and ecological education, women empowerment, microfinance development, culture system innovation, among others.

A brief description of gardens, farms, community supported agriculture (CSA) or fishery programs, and urban agriculture projects where students are able to gain experience in organic agriculture and sustainable food systems:
There is located at the residence hall of the university an organic garden that aims to reunite residents to nature and have a team workspace once a week it also helps as an antistress dynamic. This activity has been performed since August 2010 on Thursdays from 4-5 pm. There is also a compost pile that produces fertilizer for the organic garden. There are two periods of seeding one during spring- summer in January-February for tomato, cucumber, green beans, melons and squash. The other period during autumn - winter performed during September planting lettuce, spinach, onions, beets, carrots and aromatic herbs such as basil, oregano and thyme.
An organic pest control is performed by applying garlic, onion and chili solutions as repellent instead of applying pesticides.

The University of Monterrey has a student association called Students In Free Enterprise - University of Monterrey (SIFE-UDEM), which co-runs and empower a small enterprise in the rural community of Caballerías de Villa Hidalgo, Zacatecas. The students help and train the 7 ladies in order to develop management skills needed to be fully established in the local market.
The enterprise is called Siete Hermanas (Seven Sisters) focus in the production of alimentary products based in Nopal. Nowadays there is a small factory with the basic tools to produce Nopalitos in Escabeche (their main product) having a flow of sales, develop their business plan and search for local demand.

CONFERENCE PATH TO SUSTAINABILITY
The University de Monterrey, through the Center for Sustainability, organizes a biannual Conference "Path to Sustainability", which celebrated its 8th edition in August 2014.
This event is a space that links the university community with researchers, academics, public and private companies and civil organizations presenting their experiences, projects and success stories in several components of sustainability.
The conference program includes lectures by local and national speakers on issues related to ecological footprints, reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, urban mobility governance, alternative energy, sustainable construction and landscaping, sustainable industrial innovation, local cycling, water as the challenge of the millennium, recycling and programs in management of solid waste as well as national laws and regulations that concern the environmental field.
The schedule is complemented by workshops in which students and teachers interact directly with the speakers; exhibitions of sustainable products, with a focus on fair trade and sustainable social entrepreneurship, art exhibitions, and workshops on recycling techniques, healthy eating, endangered species, natural medicine, native plants, typical crafts with recycled materials, among others.

Contest in which students, can express themselves by making artwork with waste materials, addressing the urgent need to raise awareness on reduction, recycling and reuse of solid waste and sensitizing the university community on the problem of waste generation and their impact within the environment.

The Universidad de Monterrey has a Center for Leadership and Challenge called "Lánzate" that develops programs that aim to develop leadership skills by experiential education through adventure. Programs are held in the facilities of the Center Lánzate in Campus UDEM and also in wilderness areas in different national and international locations. Programs promote Leave No Trace principles.
