A brief description of the institution's collaborative sustainability partnership(s):
The Kimakul project is an initiative of UDEM’s CESYF (Center for Solidarity and Philanthropy). One of the center’s goals is to help families of scarce resources in the Monterrey area generate an additional source of income. In these projects, homemakers were trained to develop different kind of products for their personal and commercial use. Students from UDEM volunteer by helping the homemakers to foster and developed their entrepreneurial skills. The Kimakul project began in 2005 with the involvement of five housewives from the community of Santa Caterina. This fair trade store generated over $500,000 pesos last year but does not have a steady stream of revenue.

Universidad de Barrios trains community leaders from low socio-economical locations in knowledge, abilities and attitudes in the personal, social and productive area with purpose of becoming change agents in their communities. The participant attends a three module program, each of eight sessions, and implements a transformational project in their neighborhood to receive a diploma in community intervention and enrichment in any of the following orientations:
-Social and human development
-Family development
-Preventions of social problems
-Community health
-Sustainability
-Aging with dignity
