Part 1. Hazardous waste minimization and disposal

A brief description of steps taken to reduce hazardous, special (e.g. coal ash), universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:
- Recommend the purchase and use of low impact lab materials (ex. water based acrylic paint).
- Some lab activities are made once a year, instead of each semester.
- Under mexican law whomever creates the hazardous waste is obligated to take actions. UDEM is register as a hazardous waste generator at the SEMARNAT (Environment and Natural Resourses Agency). In order to reduce hazardous materials a guidance is provided to control and have a proper waste management.
- Some lab activities are made once a year, instead of each semester.

A brief description of how the institution safely disposes of hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:
- All hazardous material is put in a closed red bin according to Mexican NOM 87. When recolection is need, rhe service providers (contractors Trisa & Biofast) are called. They are the ones in charge of following the stablished disposition route.
- According to mexican environmental law all hazardous waste generated at the University is classified under the correct category: ingnitable, corrosive, toxicity, reactive. All waste generated are discarted by an accredited enterprise.
- All generators with help of the Sustanability Center and the Health and Safety Office work in the minimizations of Hazardous Waste, Safety in Labs, Chemical substitution actions and Contingency Plans.
- According to mexican environmental law all hazardous waste generated at the University is classified under the correct category: ingnitable, corrosive, toxicity, reactive. All waste generated are discarted by an accredited enterprise.
