A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory (including the types of faculty and staff included as researchers):
As part of the 2018-2022 strategic planning, the Université de Sherbrooke identified an orientation aimed at "Stimulating research development by focusing on interdisciplinarity". To implement this orientation, an exercise was put forward in order to identify priority topics which led to six clear unifying research themes, along with determining faculty members conducting research within these themes. " Three basic principles serve as guides so that the research conducted can have greater impact while contributing to the shared values within our institution: sustainable development, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and growth in our network of high-quality partners ". Among the six themes identified, the following two are accounted for: Environment and Climate Change and Togetherness: Culture, Plurality, Governance, and Equity. For this inventory, the process of identifying faculty members engaged in sustainability research occurred in a two-stage approach. First, and based on a Web consultation process that took place in the summer of 2018 to have faculty members signal their research area according to the six identified research themes, 153 faculty members who had specifically identified their research area to one of the two themes mentioned above (i.e. Environment and Climate Change and Togetherness: Culture, Plurality, Governance, and Equity), either as a main or secondary theme, were selected. Second, the faculty members who had not taken part to the Web consultation process but who’s academic profiles published on the Université de Sherbrooke's Website clearly demonstrated their research area to be tied to one of the two research themes mentioned herein, were added. Thus, bringing the total number of faculty members engaged in sustainability research to 220. Only tenured/tenure track faculty members have been included in the inventory, as is for the total number of faculty members engaged in research (the total number of faculty members engaged in research as well as the number of faculty members engaged in sustainability research do not include clinicians).
