Implementation of a solar park dedicated to applied research
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
In 2018, the Université de Sherbrooke implemented the first phase of its solar photovoltaic park. With a total power of nearly one megawatt, it is the largest solar research park in Canada dedicated to applied research (the generated power represents approximately 15% of the main campus peak consumption). This project was done in partnership with several regional industrial companies taking part to the project "Solar Energy Renewable Technologies Energy Innovation - ESTRIE". This park, located on the University's grounds, will become a Canadian reference site to validate future production and storage technologies associated with renewable energies, especially in cold climates. This major project is part of the University's Energy and Greenhouse Gas Management Strategy, with the aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. With this project, the University will join forces with its partners to stand out internationally, and have a significant impact in relation to renewable energy.
