A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:
This study aimed to provide a detailed portrayal of student mobility at the Université de Sherbrooke. To achieve this, a survey of all students attending one of the two campuses (main campus and Health Campus) and the Innovation Park during the fall session 2018 was conducted (November 3rd to 13th , 2018). Distance education students were excluded from the survey.
A probabilistic sampling method was used to conduct the survey. The data collection was done using a Web-based questionnaire.
A total of 15,789 students were invited to respond to the survey. Of these, 3 176 responses were complete and valid, which corresponds to 20.1% of the surveyed population (with a 2% margin of error).
The University students commuting composition is as follows:
52% take public transportation;
18% walk, bike;
30% are nonusers of alternative modes of transportation.
