The Université de Sherbrooke ensures the recycling of all construction materials (or dry materials) from its own site management. A local recycling entity, called Valoris (recovery of residual waste intermunicipal board), collects the materials periodically.
The Valoris eco-industrial park includes a sorting centre and a technical landfill site. Valoris also works with various industries to recover residual materials and minimize their impact on the environment. The Valoris eco-industrial park is based on the principles of the circular economy, a driving force for sustainable development. Its objective is to produce goods while limiting the consumption and waste of raw materials and energy (http://www.valoris-estrie.com/).
It is noteworthy to add that the Université de Sherbrooke’s 2018-2022 Waste Management Strategy works toward improving construction materials recovery management by implementing a follow-up on the disposal of used construction materials from external contracts. In particular by developing monitoring criteria for sound waste management in its calls for tenders as well as follow-up mechanisms with industries and contractors.
