The Université de Sherbrooke complies with the "Politique d'aménagement des bassins de rétention des eaux pluviales" of the City of Sherbrooke for its stormwater management. In addition, the University has a stormwater management plan as part of its 2018-2022 Green Development Strategy, which is being implemented on its three campuses.
The following are examples of actions taken as part of this plan to promote better stormwater management on the various campuses:
1. The grassed areas of the main campus are not watered, except for the sports fields during hot weather, which reduces the amount of potable water used.
2. The Coeur campus, created in 2009, collects rainwater to reduce its rate and to purify it.
3. The green roof of the Longueuil Campus reduces the impermeable surface of it.
4. Over the years, hundreds of parking spaces have been transformed into permeable green spaces.
5. For a number of years now, new buildings include rain catchment basins that reduce the release of rainwater during heavy precipitations.

The University plans to pursue sound rainwater management in new projects using best rainwater management practices (BMPs). It also wants to avoid disturbing slopes with more than 15% inclination and quickly revegetate any slope where the ground is exposed. In addition, the use of permeable materials for new green space developments is promoted, as well as the integration of good rainwater retention practices into the maintenance of the developments. Finally, a rainwater harvesting project at the garden level will be developed.
