A brief description of any programs to equip the institution’s faculty and staff to better serve students from low-income backgrounds:
In 2018, the Université de Sherbrooke developed the support program to the introduction of the inclusive pedagogical approach. This program aims to make teaching more inclusive and adapted to the student clientele, which includes, among others, low-income students and / or students from underrepresented groups (women, First Peoples, visible minorities and people with disabilities). The program has the following five objectives:
- Develop and test an inclusive and diverse learning, and learning assessment process;
- Promote student motivation and success;
- Promote the inclusion of everyone by better responding to everyone’s needs;
- Reduce the stigma of returning students, international students and emerging clientele;
- Limit the number of individual accommodation measures.

"Services at your fingertips" (Services à la clé) are also offered by the University. Accessible through a University web page, assistance clinics offered by Université de Sherbrooke students in particular fields allow them to practice their skills while providing their peers with specialized and free services. For instance, it is possible for students to get help in French and / or French as a second language, in English, with job search and with multimedia software. Students can also use the legal information service offered through this tool.

A brief description of the institution’s targeted outreach to recruit students from low-income backgrounds:
From an institutional point of view, the University does not carry out targeted outreach based on socio-economic criteria since it does not currently have the means to do so. Through its recruitment actions and campaigns, however, the scope to cover as many individuals as possible who meet the required educational entry criteria is very broad.
On the other hand, the Bachelor of Law Admissions Policy for Aboriginal Candidates and the Access and Support Program for Aboriginal Candidates to Legal Studies go hand in hand with the idea of a targeted recruitment campaign; the financial resources of this underrepresented group to access University are often precarious. Through such programs, not only the university becomes accessible to them, but they are supported to succeed in their university studies.
A brief description of the institution’s other policies or programs to make the institution accessible and affordable to low-income students:
The University Financial Aid Office assists and supports students who are eligible for financial aid offered by the Québec Government. Staff can help students fill out the required forms appropriately as to ensure that they have access to the funding to which they are entitled.
Support for Non-Traditional Students

A brief description of the institution’s other policies and programs to support non-traditional students:
The Sustainable Development University Training Center (Centre universitaire de formation en environnement et développement durable (CUFE)) gives students the opportunity to complete microprograms in environment and sustainable development. Such offerings allow students to more easily reconcile their professional and personal lives while pursuing their studies. The CUFE also offers several distance courses for undergraduate and graduate students.
The Université de Sherbrooke Longueuil Campus offers a large number of training courses in a variety of fields, including continuing education. Credited undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs, non-credited training and University of the Third Age training are available. Most courses are given in the evenings and on weekends, which enables accessibility, thus allowing thousands of students to remain in the workforce consequently.

Furthermore, and while keeping in consideration to support non-traditional students in their university careers, the University provides resources to assist parent students. Via the University’s web page, services and support offered on the main campus as well as on the Longueuil Campus are displayed, may they be related to financial aid, families activities on campuses, maternity support or parenthood support, etc.
