Several professional development and training opportunities related to sustainability, encompassing one or all dimensions of the concept (social, economic, and environmental), are available to staff members through different university services (i.e., the Service des ressources humaines [EN: Human Resources Services], the Centre universitaire de formation continue (CUFC) [EN: University Centre for Continuing Education], the Centre universitaire de formation en environnement et développement durable (CUFE) [EN: University Centre for Environmental and Sustainable Development Studies], and the Division de la santé et de la sécurité en milieu de travail et d’études (SSMTE) [EN: Workplace and Educational Health and Safety Division]).

• To reinforce its actions to fight the "violences à caractère sexuel" (VACS) [EN: violence of a sexual nature], the Université de Sherbrooke has made two online trainings mandatory for all its employees: "Prévenir et combattre les VACS" [EN: Preventing and combating VACS] and "Banalisation des VACS" [EN: Trivialization of VACS].

• The Human Resources Services provides all Université de Sherbrooke managers with a range of training guides and tools for skills development, such as conflict prevention and management, welcoming and integrating new staff, organizational development, and telecommuting.

• Occupational health and safety training courses are offered to members of the university community by the Workplace and Educational Health and Safety Division. It trained 1,340 people in 2021 in 28 different types of trainings. The trainings cover a variety of topics such as biosafety and biosecurity, chemical risk management, hazardous materials transportation, air quality, occupational health and safety, ergonomics, and safe maternity. Also, laboratory health and safety training is provided to employees (and students) exposed to hazardous materials. This training is linked to the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). In addition, available guides, work procedures, and safety manuals are constantly updated in collaboration with faculty members, teaching and research staff and students.

• A development day, the Journée du personnel [EN: Staff Day], is organized annually for all staff. Several sports, social, and cultural activities are held with the aim of creating a network of collaboration and mutual support between employees. The hybrid formula of the 2022 edition, which mobilized employees in a multi-day sports challenge in preparation for the big gathering on June 1, attracted more than 1,000 people from all campuses and all sectors of activity.

• The Centre universitaire de formation en environnement et développement durable (CUFE) [EN: University Centre for Environmental and Sustainable Development Studies] offers lunch discussions open to all, les MIDI-MAD (Midis pour apprendre et discuter) [EN: the CUFE's lunchtimes to learn and to discuss], which address various themes of sustainable development, such as ecology, urban planning, education, and the economics.

• Sexual and gender diversity trainings were held with managers and all staff in some key departments at the University.

Employees can also enhance their knowledge and skills on issues such as sustainability through short-term activities, such as symposia, conferences, or seminars, supported by the institution. In these cases, employee expenses are reimbursed, although specific conditions may vary by staff category.
