A brief description of how the institution ensures that its lowest-paid workers (including contractors, if applicable) receive sustainable compensation:
The university is committed to fair, competitive, and equitable compensation for its employees, taking into consideration functions, qualifications, and responsibilities. Its HR management policy recognizes that individuals employed by the university are entitled to meaningful work, stimulating assignments, and fair treatment.

The university must also comply with Quebec’s Act respecting equal access to employment. As such, it has an equal access to employment plan that is revised at least every five years. The plan ensures that predominantly female job classes continue to have access to the same level of maximum compensation as predominantly male job classes of equal value.

It is the responsibility of Human Resources to monitor equity within the university and the appropriate reference job market and submit the appropriate recommendations to senior administration.
Most university contractors are unionized organizations with good wage conditions. The university ensures that its contractors comply with applicable minimum wage and labour laws so that contract employees live above Quebec’s official poverty line.
