In the summer of 2016, a student in FOR-6006 wrote a paper with the title “Boreal Fir Forest Management and CO2 Emission Mitigation Potential,” supervised by Évelyne Thiffault and focusing on management in the Montmorency Forest. This study will help us determine the amount of CO2 equivalent captured by the university’s carbon sink.

In winter 2015, students in ARC-1008, Human Aspects of Architecture, a course offered by the School of Architecture, conducted an observation exercise at the university library. The goal was to observe how humans interact with the built environment and to develop observation methods and recommendations for improving the environment. Thanks to the study, UL was able to make improvements to this very popular student work environment.

In winter 2015, four students in MNG-6009 carried out a case study on integrating sustainable development in the Athletics Office. The study enabled us to pinpoint the least energy-efficient sectors that Université should be focusing on.

In summer 2015, as part of her internship with the Geography Department in the Faculty of Forestry, Geography, and Geomatics (GGR-3600), a student carried out an internship project on green labels used at campus food services and concessions. The study will help the university create an overview of current food certifications and then make recommendations to the various food service outlets on campus.

Each year between 225 and 350 students carry out research projects at Montmorency Forest, Université Laval's research and teaching forest. The work of these students helps Forest managers maintain an advanced understanding of the land and continuously improve its sustainable management practices.

In fall 2014, a student in the course ENT-3010, entrepreneurial portfolio II, worked on the idea of creating a “high-end” used clothing store on campus. The entrepreneurial portfolio allows students to work on a project related to their field of study, develop contacts, and improve their skills as entrepreneurs. Thanks to this project, serious consideration was given to starting a used clothing business on campus.

As part of her final project for a master’s in land use, a student studied the issue of resistance to change in the transition from the car to sustainable transport. This study will help the university better focus its communication strategies to encourage the use of sustainable transport.

During their Supervised Work Project in Sustainable Development I (DDU-3010), two students produced a report on the integration of sustainable development into activities at the campus's La Charmille childcare centre (CPE). The study will help the centre’s managers draw up a structured plan to improve their sustainable development practices and prioritize the most important steps.

Every year, students in Heath Education I (EPS-2101) hold a blood drive as part of their course. Besides helping them develop event planning skills, the drive also allows students to understand the importance of community involvement.

Every year, students in Heath Education II (EPS-3101) hold the 5-10 km Challenge as part of their course. Besides helping them develop event planning skills, the drive also allows students to raise awareness among the campus community of the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle habits. The university continues awareness efforts on this topic throughout the year.
