Student Sustainability Research Incentives 

Does the institution have an ongoing program to encourage students in multiple disciplines or academic programs to conduct research in sustainability? :
Yes

A brief description of the student research program, including the incentives provided and any positive outcomes during the previous three years:
Institut Hydro-Québec en environnement, développement et société (Institut EDS) provides annually scholarships to candidates for master's and doctoral whose fields of interest are part of the research program of the Institute (in sustainability), whose research director is a member of EDS Institute. These scholarships are intended to encourage students for research and writing theses on the interrelationships between environment, development and society. Since 2005, 64 scholarships were offered to students to encourage them to conduct research in sustainability. http://www.ihqeds.ulaval.ca/soutien-a-la-recherche/bourses/ Institut EDS graduate students can join a sustainable development research project and share their results at the annual EDS conference and in the student journal, L’intErDiSciplinaire.

Faculty Sustainability Research Incentives 

Does the institution have a program to encourage faculty from multiple disciplines or academic programs to conduct research in sustainability topics?:
Yes

A brief description of the faculty research program, including the incentives provided and any positive outcomes during the previous three years:
Institut Hydro-Québec en environnement, développement et société (Institut EDS) conducts annually a competition for funding research projects related to sustainability. Themes and evaluation are carried out by its Director and Scientific Committee. To be eligible, the projects must be carried out by an interdisciplinary team or researchers. Created in 2005, the Institute is an initiator, catalyst, and focal point for sustainable development stakeholders. Its primary mission is to help coordinate and organize training, research, and knowledge-dissemination activities in the area of sustainable development. A key sustainable development partner for the University, the Institute brings together more than 94 researchers and over 400 students from 12 faculties.

A brief description of the institution’s support for interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary research, including any positive outcomes during the previous three years:
Université Laval encourages interdisciplinarity and multidisciplinarity. The collective agreement for professors at the university allows for dual postings. That means that professors can be hired and work for two departments at the same time, thus opening the door to interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research. (Chapter 2.4)

The university library includes an entire section on sustainable development and offers personal assistance in searching for this type of material. http://www.bibl.ulaval.ca/web/developpement-durable/presentation#contenu http://www.bibl.ulaval.ca/web/geographie/information/developpement-durable-2015 In collaboration with Institut EDS, Université Laval has also developed a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on sustainable development that has been now been offered twice. The MOOC has had strong success in francophone countries (notably in Africa), and a companion book has also been published in electronic and paper versions.
