A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability, including website URL (if available) and information to support each affirmative response above:
Alliance santé Québec (AsQ) was launched on October 1, 2013, at the instigation of some twenty founding partners from the Greater Québec City area who wanted to join forces to create a collaborative response to the major challenges in health care and social services in Québec and around the world. These partners represent thousands of individuals working in education, research, and innovation and thousands of current and potential users of the knowledge these individuals generate.
AsQ’s mission is to improve research and innovation performance in the field of health care and social services in the Greater Québec City area and to maximize the positive impacts on the population’s health and well-being, the healthcare and social services ecosystem, and the regional economy, with a view to sustainable health.
The Alliance defines sustainable health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being that is achieved and maintained throughout life through healthy, rewarding, and fulfilling living for all and through access to appropriate, high-quality resources used responsibly and effectively. By “responsibly and effectively,” AsQ means that resources should not be overused, misused, or underused. They should be used with a view to saving money and improving the value of healthcare dollars in an ecologically sound manner.
To this end, AsQ supports the three pillars of sustainable development:
- Social: positive impacts on the population’s health and well-being
- Economic: positive impacts on the regional economy
- Environmental: responsible and effective use of resources
To support AsQ, Université Laval provides direct funding, makes its facilities available at reduced rates, and shares some of its employees.
Alliance Santé Québec reserves a spot on its board of directors for a member of the public, to represent the interests of patient groups (vulnerable populations).
