Published Plans That Address Sustainability
Strategic Plan
Yes
A brief description of how the institution’s strategic plan or equivalent guiding document addresses sustainability:
Université Laval has included sustainability at a high level in the institution’s strategic plan. In addition to demonstrate the institution’s commitment to sustainability, adding sustainability at a high level help to establish a common vision, structure decision-making and infuse a social responsibility throughout the campus community.
Within its strategic plan, Université Laval has divided the concept of sustainable development into ten major categories of action. These guidelines, inspired by the University’s sustainable development policy, provide a structured overarching vision and a cohesive framework for decision making and foster a better understanding of sustainability challenges.
1. Education
2. Research and creation
3. Governance, responsible management, and economic viability
4. Fighting climate change
5. Sustainable transportation
6. Responsible purchasing and consumption
7. Sustainable infrastructure
8. Healthy lifestyle habits
9. Social involvement
10. Culture, living environment, and global awareness
This third sustainable action plan (2015-2018) is a continuation of our past efforts and the result of broad consultation with managers of various units to identify courses of action consistent with their mission.
The pursuit goals are:
- Incorporating sustainable development into operations, in line with each unit’s role within the University
- Getting faculties and units to participate more
- Informing each sector how they can contribute to the sustainable development approach
For each of these categories of actions, measurable goals and objectives are set, which helps the institution to track its progress and manage the levels of resources required to the attainment of its sustainability goals.
